Bushings Built for Cruising

Cruiser board bushings help your board turn smoothly. These small polyurethane rings are found in skateboard trucks and come in two main types: cone bushings and barrel bushings. For cruisers, the common setups are cone-cone and barrel-cone.

The key factor when choosing new bushings is hardness (durometer). The scale used for this is the same as for skate wheels; the higher the number, the harder the bushing. Softer bushings allow for deeper, carving turns, while harder bushings offer more stability and higher speeds. The ideal hardness of cruiser bushings depends on your weight. For younger, lighter riders, starting around 78A is typical, but many riders prefer around 90A.

What Size Are Penny Board Bushings?

Don’t be confused by the size of a penny board deck! Bushings are universal in size and design, so you can use the same ones for a penny board as you would for a regular-sized cruiser board or skateboard.

Cruiser Pivot Cups for a Smoother Ride

Cruiserboard pivot cups are small urethane pieces located between your truck’s hanger and baseplate. They enable smooth turns and withstand the pressure created when turning.

There are various pivot cups available, broadly categorized as soft or hard. For a cruising experience, many skaters prefer softer cups. To determine the hardness of your pivot cups, check their durometer rating.

When Should I Replace My Pivot Cups?

There is no set timeframe for the lifespan of a pivot cup as it depends on usage frequency. However, signs of wear, especially at the bottom, and increased truck noise indicate that replacement is needed. If you find yourself frequently changing pivot cups, using lubrication or wax can help extend their life.
