Street Hockey Sticks
Which Stick is Ideal for Street Hockey?
Selecting a street hockey stick begins with deciding on the material. These sticks, often referred to as roller hockey sticks or inline hockey sticks, are crafted from either wood or composite materials.
Street hockey enthusiasts generally favour sticks with wooden shafts. These sticks are typically more affordable than composite ones and are more durable and heavier, making them well-suited for street play. Conversely, composite materials make for lighter sticks that offer easier control.
How is a Street Hockey Stick Sized?
For inline and roller hockey, measurement pertains only to the shaft (excluding the blade). Adult hockey sticks commonly range from 140 to 158 cm (4'8"-5'3") in length. Junior sticks are narrower and measure between 116 and 138 cm (3'10"- 4'7").
To ensure the hockey stick is the correct size, stand it vertically with the blade toe resting on the ground and the shaft extending towards your chin. If the street hockey stick reaches your chin when wearing skates, it is the appropriate size.
Is Using an Ice Hockey Stick for Street Hockey Possible?
Certainly, an ice hockey stick is suitable for roller and inline hockey. However, an ABS blade is recommended for street hockey as it offers better durability against the harshness of asphalt surfaces.
