BMX tubes are located inside the tires and are responsible for holding the air within the wheel. Constructed from various types of durable rubber, they feature a tire valve, either a Presta or Schrader valve, for inflation.
Given the nature of BMX riding, inner tubes will eventually need replacement. Whether you engage in freestyle or racing, you’ll recognize that both activities subject the tires to significant impacts and constant pressure, inevitably leading to punctures. Small punctures can be repaired with a patch kit, but if your BMX inner tube persistently loses air pressure, it’s time to purchase a new tube. For instructions on correctly installing your inner tube, watch our short video on How to Install BMX Tires and Inner Tubes.
What BMX Tube Size Do I Need?
In simple terms, the size of your BMX tube must match the size of your BMX tire in both diameter and width. The most common tire diameter is 20 inches, so a 20-inch BMX tube would be appropriate. The inner tube width is indicated as a range, for example, 1.70 - 2.5 inches. The tire width should fall within this range, but even if it is slightly narrower or wider, it will still function.
When replacing your BMX tubes, it’s advisable to check the condition of your tire. Over time, tires can lose traction or become more prone to punctures. If you’re considering new tires as well, explore our collection of BMX Tires.
