BMX pedals are a crucial component of your BMX setup. When searching for the right pedals, there are several factors to consider including the material, size, and pins.
One of the first decisions to make is the material of your BMX bike pedals. BMX pedals come in various materials, typically metal or plastic. Plastic pedals are lighter, more affordable, and available in a range of colorful designs for customization. BMX metal pedals offer excellent grip, greater durability, but are heavier.
BMX Pedal Sizes
BMX pedals generally come in two sizes: the 9/16 inch found on most modern BMX bikes, and the 1/2 inch, which is more common on kids' BMX bikes and older models. These measurements refer to the pedal axle diameter. The size of your pedal is determined by the type of crankset you have. A 9/16 inch is suitable for 3-piece cranks, while a 1/2 inch is designed for 1-piece cranks.
What Are the Best BMX Pedals?
The best BMX pedals provide excellent grip and enhance your performance. Ensuring that pedals have the desired grip is crucial to prevent slipping off and injuring your shins. Worn-down pedals offer less grip, so inspect them regularly to keep your shins safe.
The grip of your pedals heavily depends on the BMX pins. Pins improve the grip of your pedal, and many pedals feature replaceable pins to extend the pedal's lifespan. Pins can vary in length: the longer they are, the more grip they offer - but the higher the risk of damaging your shoes and shins.
